EDITING SERVICES

Good writing is difficult, and it can be discouraging to realize that your best efforts are not yielding the results you want. If you remember that handing work over to a trusted colleague is just a part of the writing process, that the best writers do it too, you are more likely to ask for help when you need it and not waste time.  Maria relishes the assessment process and will deliver clear, no-nonsense, and actionable recommendations you can use, and she will do so affordably, compassionately and promptly.

Different writers need different kinds of support. Whether beginning a project, diagnosing a manuscript that’s not working, or polishing a completed work for submission, every writer can benefit from an excellent editor. Whether a personal essay or short story, an article of a few pages or a book-length fiction or nonfiction manuscript, Maria can help.

Maria is a published author of literary fiction herself and comes to editing from years of honing her own work. She has over twenty years of experience helping novice as well as seasoned writers generate, develop, and hone their manuscripts. With an MFA in fiction and a Pushcart Prize under her belt, she has taught both college writing and creative writing. She is a former editor of a local, award-winning women’s magazine and a former writing coach for rising high school seniors. She is particularly drawn to literary fiction, memoir, family histories, and similar nonfiction projects.
